Oil and gas producers say they've got winter protocols in place to keep supplying power plants in case of more record weather this winter.
Natural gas production dropped 20 percent during cold weather the first weekend in January. Texas Oil and Gas Association President Todd Staples says enough gas is already in the marketplace for power plants that plan ahead, saying some production could still drop because of cold weather or high winds.
Meanwhile, Staples says producers also paid almost $16 billion in taxes and royalties last year.
"This data confirms that reliable, affordable energy, fuels, and products made by the oil and natural gas industry are central to the continued economic and environmental progress," Staples said.
He says that provided cities, counties, and the state more than $43 million a day for schools, roads, and first responders.
