Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is renewing his push to ban all products containing THC, citing a recent federal court ruling in Arkansas that upheld a similar law.
Patrick highlighted the decision on social media this week, referencing remarks he made during a June press conference in which he predicted the end of the THC industry in Texas.
Earlier efforts to outlaw THC products in Texas were vetoed by Gov. Greg Abbott, who instead favors regulating smoke shops. A spokesperson for the governor said the administration’s priority is to prevent the sale of synthetic drugs to children, rather than impose an outright ban.
The debate underscores an ongoing divide among top Republican leaders over how to handle the rapidly growing market for hemp-derived and synthetic cannabis products.
