Some Texas restaurants and national chains are adding an "egg surcharge" to customers’ bills as the nation continues to face an egg shortage, according to the Texas Restaurant Association.

Tony Abruscato, a spokesperson for the association, said raising prices is often a last-resort measure aimed at avoiding staff layoffs.

The shortage is being attributed to the ongoing bird flu outbreak, which has decimated entire flocks across the country and driven up egg prices.
