Texas politics might be hurting recruitment rates for its colleges.
A consulting firm, the Art & Science Group, released a survey highlighting how politics affect where students apply, and ultimately decide where to go for college. They conducted the study with over 4,000 high school seniors and found that 28% of possible college students removed a college or a university from their wish list due to politics and policies in the state where the school is.
Of those, the highest percentage said they scratched off any schools in Texas, Alabama, California, Florida, and New York state. 31% of students crossed Texas off their lists due to its political views and social policies. This made Texas the the most-excluded state. Overall, the number of potential students who bailed is relatively small.
The study also suggests that since this year is an election year and many politic topics are of common conversations, impacted their views. This comes after realizing that the percentage increased since last year.
