The state's top attorney has agreed to apologize and pay several former staffers who accused him of corruption in 2020.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has publicly settled with four former employees whom he fired after they accused him of corruption and reported him to the FBI.

The "rogue employees", as he dubbed them at the time, will also receive a payout totaling $3.3 million, the funds coming from Texas taxpayers which will require approval by the Texas Legislature.

Both sides signed a mediated agreement that was filed in the Texas Supreme Court and will be followed by a longer, formalized settlement.

Accusations from at least eight former staffers against Paxton included bribery and abuse of office. Those involved either resigned or were fired.

Settling this case means Paxton will avoid sitting for a civil deposition while a federal corruption investigation remains open.
