Nearly 13 years after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the far-right media company that falsely claimed it was a hoax could soon be sold.

A Texas court on Wednesday appointed a receiver to sell Free Speech Systems, parent of Alex Jones’ Infowars, to help pay more than $1 billion Jones owes to families of Sandy Hook victims.

The ruling stems from a 2022 Connecticut jury verdict that found Jones liable for defamation. He has yet to pay any of the nearly $1.5 billion awarded in combined verdicts. A hearing in September will determine if a Texas judgment is also put into receivership.

The decision allows satirical outlet The Onion to again bid for Infowars, with plans to turn it into a parody and partner with gun violence prevention group Everytown for Gun Safety.
