Texas Republicans are once again pushing legislation to ban land sales to foreign nationals, an effort that has failed in previous legislative sessions.
This time, the proposal has the backing of Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, who argues that foreign ownership of farmland poses a national security threat. He cited a Chinese firm that has purchased land near Laughlin Air Force Base as an example of the potential risks.
The bill introduced this session would prohibit individuals and organizations from "designated countries" from owning property in Texas. The legislation specifically names China, Iran, North Korea, and Russia.
