The debate over how to deliver property tax relief is still underway at the Texas Capitol, but Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick says he is confident lawmakers will reach an agreement.
The Senate plan, backed by Patrick, favors homeowners by raising the homestead exemption from $100,000 to $140,000. The House proposal focuses on tax rate compression, a move that would benefit businesses.
Patrick defended the Senate’s approach, emphasizing its benefits for Texas homeowners. He also projected that the final agreement could result in $51 billion in property tax relief.
The Legislature has yet to finalize a plan as negotiations between the House and Senate continue.
