Three more military airports including one in Texas are now eligible for grants to add civilian aviation operations. Kelly Field in San Antonio will participate in the program for five years.
Airports in Alabama and Kansas also qualified.
The FAA will work with each airport to determine specific funding needs for projects like parking lots, fuel farms, hangars, utilities, access roads, cargo buildings and connector taxiways.
The FAA says this will allow for more system capacity and help to reduce congestion at existing airports.
The three new airports join four others already in the program. The Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport is the only other Texas airport. The rest are in Maryland, New Mexico and Michigan.
