Be careful if you bought oysters anytime after Nov. 17. Those harvested from the TX-1 area of Galveston Bay, above Crystal Beach, have been recalled and thrown away, and the area has been closed to oyster harvesting.

The Texas Department of State Health Services said they had gotten reports of people getting sick to their stomachs after eating oysters over the last few days. Three human tests have returned positive for norovirus, which has been previously linked to raw oysters.

DSHS said the oysters are eaten here and shipped out of state, with most of the illness reports having come out of Florida.

The recall applies to fresh and shucked oysters, and the packaging is marked TX 1. Stores and restaurants should throw these oysters out.

The state said the issue is highly localized and there has not been a concern with shellfish harvested elsewhere in Texas or other species of seafood.
