Far too often people stop liking things once it becomes popular, claiming the brand, person, band, or activity went downhill once the rest of the world found out about it. Sadly, that now appears to be happening to one of the things Texans love the most.
As Whataburger has begun to spread throughout the country, some are now claiming the Texas-based fast food chain has become “absolute trash.”
On Wednesday, a thread was started on Reddit that quickly drew the attention of hundreds, asking “anyone noticed how absolutely trash Whataburger has become?” The post was shared on r/Texas and quickly received more than 1,000 comments. “I loved it as a kid, moved out of state and came back with my partner. I was so excited for them to try it for the first time and it was so disappointing,” said the original poster.
According to Dallas Morning News, many attributed this fall in quality to Whataburger no longer being a family-owned business after it sold a controlling stake to Chicago-based BDT Capital Partners in 2019.
Of course, many Texans took offense to this thread, claiming it is still the best fast food option available. Maybe the original poster just forgot what it means to be Texan.
