We've all noticed the huge influx of people moving to the great state of Texas, but what kind of people are moving here exactly?
A report compiled by Business Insider, the Census Bureau's 2022 American Community Survey, and the University of Minnesota's IPUMS program found that the typical person moving to Texas is "an unmarried millennial making $50,000 in search of a better life."
At 40.5%, millennials were the largest generation to pack up and move to Texas, followed by Gen Z at 29.9%, Gen X at 16%, Boomers at 11.4%, with the Silent Generation comprising the final 2.2%.
As typical with most folks moving to the Lone Star State, the lower cost of living compared to other parts of the U.S. was most appealing to movers.
One man who recently moved from California said that since moving to Texas, he's been able to afford a larger home and finds day-to-day expenses less expensive.
Eric Hartnett explained, "I bought asparagus in Texas for $1.90 a bunch. Two weeks later, I visited Northern California and was asked to cook — the asparagus there was $5, and it was the exact same product from the same place in Mexico."
