The world-famous Michelin restaurant guide recognized several restaurants in Texas this year.
For restaurants, earning even a single Michelin star is a big honor. 15 restaurants in Texas got a star from Michelin. Dozens of others got the designation of being a "Michelin Recommended."
Elizabeth Blau at Crown Block, which is located at the top of Reunion Tower in Dallas, said that can have a big impact.
"We are so thrilled because there are people that specifically travel for the Michelin reccomended," Blau said.
Cities or states have to pay to have their restaurants reviewed by the guide. Craig Davis with "Visit Dallas" says the company first approached them about rating restaurants in Dallas, but they couldn't afford the cost on their own.
"We're very fortunate that the State Tourism Office of Texas [is] bearing half the cost of this, Davis said. "Then there are five major cities that are all sharing the other one-fifth of the portion."
Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio all contributed, along with the Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office. Executive Director Adriana Cruz stated that the restaurant industry is important to the state.
"Contributing more than $100 billion in sales last year and serving as the state's largest private sector employer," Cruz said.
Davis shared that it was worth it because it would improve the city's reputation as a travel destination.
"We are the ones who do all the tourism marketing and a big pillar for us is food and restaurant experiences," Davis said. "So this aligns with our mission is to sell and market Dallas to the world."
