As some residents of the New Orleans area began picking up the pieces from damage caused by Tuesday's weather event, public officials were out and about to survey the damage firsthand.
Jefferson Parish Councilman Scott Walker posted an array of photos to his Twitter feed of some of the destruction caused by a tornado that ripped through Gretna, including images of a van that was thrown across a street by a twister.
Walker also posted a video of a man's eyewitness account of the tornado, who said he saw the news report of the tornado and, within seconds, it was on his street.
Tornadoes plagued the New Orleans area Tuesday night, striking the Westbank, Lower 9th Ward and Arabi.
