Two young adult Texans are named among the 32 Rhodes Scholars in this country.
One of them is Ariana Palomo from McKinney. She currently attends Brown University where she works at the Student Clinic for Immigrant Justice and her research interests include immigration policy. She is also the lead violinist for Rhode Island’s only mariachi group.
The other Rhodes Scholar from Texas is Jae Kim. He is a senior at Rice University and President of the Rice University Student Association.
Scholarship officials announced early this week the winners of all 32 Rhodes Scholars. Those who applied for this scholarship came from 19 states and the District of Columbia, totaling 20 U.S. colleges and universities that these students attended.
Out of the 865 that applied and were endorsed by their college or university, officials selected 238 finalists for interviews. The 32 scholars including Paloma and Kim, now have a full-ride scholarship to attend Oxford University in Great Britain for their graduate studies. The following year, they will be the international class representing more than 70 nations.
