University of Texas commencement ceremony proceeds without disruption

Despite speculation that protestors might interfere after weeks of demonstrations, the commencement ceremony at the University of Texas in Austin on Saturday.

One student held up a Palestinian flag during the graduation and refused to leave the stage, but was quickly escorted away by security, according to The Associated Press.

Following the ceremony, a small group of demonstrators gathered on the lawn, but concluded around 10 p.m. Saturday. Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were on site, but there was no apparent violence.

University of Texas President Jay Hartzell called last week for a quiet and peaceful graduation ceremony.

Several Longhorn students said they were grateful to have celebrated their accomplishments free of a major disruption.
