Urban biologist says coyotes are drawn to rodents which coyotes feed on

In recent years, many coyote sightings have alarmed many in North Texas. But the Texas Parks-and-Wildlife Department says these sightings are not really that surprising.

Last night in the south Dallas neighborhood of Oak Cliff, TPW Urban Biologist Rachel Richter spoke to a community gathering to say bobcats and coyotes live in urban areas because their diet includes a lot of rodents. So, in any area where rodents are common, the coyotes will be drawn to feed.

Richter says one way to minimize the number of rodent predators like coyotes around your house is to eliminate conditions that draw the rodents, like leaving pet food outside and keeping brush piles on your property.
