Most of the cattle are okay after a livestock trailer crashed in Mineral Wells this week.

Video shows about 30 civilians, most with a lot of livestock experience, helping police and firefighters at the scene, mostly with caring for the surviving animals who were jammed in tight when the trailer rolled on its side along Highway 281 where it crosses through the heart of Mineral Wells.

Police Chief Tim Denison says experienced hands just kept showing up at the scene with horses, cattle trailers, rope and even a welding rig and a John Deere tractor.

The make-shift crew worked late into the night to make sure the surviving cattle were cared for and transported to a safe place.

Police say about a dozen cattle were lost but it could have been much worse.
