We’re inching closer and closer to the first day of fall, which officially arrives next Tuesday. The good news is that we have a little bit of a weather change coming early next week, just in time for the arrival of fall.
Good morning, everyone, and welcome to almost Friday! I hope you’ve had a great workweek so far. It’s been hot, as we all know, and I believe we’re now up to 52 triple-digit temperatures for the year. We’ve also reached 63 consecutive days without measurable rainfall at DFW Airport.
I know some of you saw some rain late last week, but I have no rain in the forecast for today, tomorrow, Saturday or Sunday. The good news is the heat advisories are gone for now, and hopefully for good. We’ll see what happens this weekend as the humidity slowly starts to increase.
Temperatures this morning are hovering near 80 degrees, and we’ll climb to around 100 degrees this afternoon. The record high for today is 99, so we may have another record on our hands here in September.
We’ve now had 16 triple-digit temperatures during the month of September, which is double the old September record of eight, set back in 2023. Crazy!
More triple-digit heat is possible Friday, while Saturday and Sunday will be close to 100. With increasing humidity, those heat advisories may return this weekend.
Now for the drum roll… I don’t see any rain in the forecast until Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
A weak cold front will slowly sag into the area, and where it stalls during that time frame will determine where afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms develop.
If it doesn't rain Monday, we’ll have another chance Tuesday. If it doesn't rain Tuesday, there’s another chance Wednesday. Hopefully, it rains in your backyard!
If it does rain, temperatures could drop from the low to mid 90s into the 80s pretty quickly, with even some upper 70s possible if you get an extended period of rainfall.
Right now, I can’t tell you exactly where it’s going to rain, how much rain we’ll receive or what the coverage will be. That’s something I’ll be monitoring closely.
And with temperatures still getting well into the 90s each day, any storms that develop could become strong to severe, with damaging winds, small hail and lightning being the primary threats.
Otherwise, I can’t go much farther out than seven days. Beyond that, it’s more of a trend. But I’ve been saying for quite some time that usually by the last week of September or early October, we see our first decent, noticeable front.
That’s when we typically start seeing temperatures falling well down into the 60s at night, afternoon highs in the mid 80s, lower humidity and gusty north winds.
