Well, folks, we may finally have a little weather change coming tomorrow, with a chance for showers and storms by late afternoon and evening across parts of North Texas. Not everyone will see rain, but at least it is in the forecast!
Good morning and welcome to Wednesday. We’re waking up under mostly clear skies, with temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s and nothing showing up on radar right now.
We still have that bubble of high pressure overhead in the upper levels of the atmosphere, but over the next 24 hours, it’s going to split in half. One piece will move west of us while another lingers to our east. That will briefly open up a northerly flow in the upper levels, allowing this weak front to settle near the Red River by tomorrow afternoon.
So, I’ll keep you posted on those rain chances. It has been a LONG time since we’ve had measurable rain at DFW Airport, where the official records are kept. We’re now at 55 consecutive days without measurable rainfall.
And the heat? We’ve had 44 days of triple-digit temperatures so far this summer. That has us creeping higher in the rankings for consecutive days of triple-digit heat. Forty-four days of 100-degree-plus temperatures in 2026 is now tied for ninth place all-time.
Combine that with 55 consecutive days without measurable rain, and we’re now sixth all-time for the longest dry streak at DFW. Pretty brutal out there.
Today, we’ll be close to 100 degrees with a few isolated popcorn showers and thunderstorms developing east and west of the Dallas-Fort Worth area late this afternoon. Most of DFW should stay dry.
Tomorrow is where things get a little more interesting. I’ll be watching that front by late afternoon and evening as an area of showers and thunderstorms moves in from Oklahoma. We’ll see just how far south those storms can make it.
Any storms that develop could produce gusty winds, frequent lightning and brief heavy rainfall.
Temperatures tomorrow will be held down a few degrees, with highs in the upper 90s. We’ll be back into the upper 90s Friday with a few scattered showers and storms mainly south of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Then the weekend? Back to around 100 degrees, with more of the same expected Monday and Tuesday of next week. Sunny, hot and highs near 100.
And a reminder: we do have heat advisories in effect today, with heat index values reaching around 105 to 106 degrees. Make sure you stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if you’re working outdoors.
