Caltrans is hard at work cleaning up from the storm that’s been hammering L.A. since Sunday and is expected to continue through Tuesday.
Jim Medina, with Caltrans, said they’re advising motorists to stay off the roads if that’s possible. He said if people have to travel, they need to prepare for delays, closures, and dangerous conditions.
“We're seeing a lot of spin-outs into center dividers,” he said.” We have closures on [the] 405 ramp at Sunset Boulevard. We have, the big one for downtown Los Angeles is the state route 5 southbound to state route 110, which is an access way to downtown.”
In Ventura County, Medina said two of the three lanes on the southbound 101 are closed in downtown Ventura.
“We have maintenance working around the clock. They're on 24-hour shifts and they're working as quickly and safely as possible,” he said. “We asked motorists to look out for Caltrans workers, CHP officers, and first responders.”
Medina said workers are clearing the drains and working to clean up mudslides as quickly as possible.

He explained that workers have been out in problem areas prone to flooding for days, preparing for this storm.
“This weather, I mean, this is kind of unprecedented, this is one of the biggest storms we've seen,” Medina said. “And so at some point, you know that you're doing as much as you can, but, you know, the weather dictates problems. So we just have to respond to that.”

Sunday was the rainiest day in downtown L.A. in over 100 years.
