LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Los Angeles Unifed School District employees originally had until Oct. 15 to comply with a district-wide order to get vaccinated against COVID-19. That deadline was extended to Monday, Nov. 15.

"We are going to make sure that our campuses are safe by only having vaccinated adults working at them," LAUSD school board member Jackie Goldberg told KNX 1070.

Goldberg said the vast majority of LAUSD employees have been vaccinated or otherwise received exemptions from the mandate. Only 500 to 700 employees may face termination if not vaccinated by end of day on Monday, she estimated.

"We're sorry it was still that high, but we're at 99% in most of the job categories," Goldberg noted of staffers' compliance rate.

Employees who are terminated on Monday can still save their jobs, Goldberg said. Those who get a Johnson & Johnson shot the day of Nov. 15 will be deemed in compliance with the deadline. Those who opt to get vaccinated after the deadline has passed will have the opportunity to reapply for their old jobs, with reinstatement likely.
