Joining Audacy host Morgan Freed this week on Emo Nite is Bring Me The Horizon's Oliver Sykes, to fill us in on what the U.K. band is up to now with their newest single streaming ahead of the group's upcoming second Post Human release.
Following the release of the group's 2020 EP Post Human: Survival Horror, BMTH's Sykes hopped the pond from England to Brazil to visit with his wife's family -- and they ended up staying for a full year due to the pandemic. Luckily, some productive Zoom sessions brought us their latest release, "DiE4u," as well as a few others for a new Post Human offering.

"We did it all remotely," Sykes tells us. "Me and Jordan [Fish] would sit and we'd write the main stuff for it... the entire record was remotely created. We've never done it before, obviously, like that."
"The way we approached it," he explains, "we were kind of in the mood to write some pissed-off, angry music because that started to reflect the times, but also... we might have to be a little less experimental. The way we felt at first, was like, 'there's no way this is gonna work as well as when you're in a room together.' The mindset was like, 'we're gonna have to write a little bit more with our gut and go with what feels good.' We can get really deep when we write music, it can go on for ages."
"We definitely went more with just our instincts because of the remoteness and because of everything," on the bands latest work, says Sykes. "But as we went on we got so incredibly used to writing like that. We didn't need to write that way, but at the same time, it felt good. We can overwrite a song, and I think with these songs we didn't analyze every little detail as much because of the nature of it."
Since their formation in 2004, Bring Me The Horizon has worked with an eclectic mix of collaborators over the years, including The Roots' Rahzel, Cradle of Filth's Dani Filth, and Andromeda Galaxy resident Grimes on their 2019 release Amo alone. "I've always been an adaptable guy," Sykes explains. "But you also have to do what's true to you. We all evolve as people, there's no denying that; not many of us stay liking the same music we did when we were 15. We mature, and we grow up, and we get into different stuff, and our palate changes. For us, it's always staying true to that and not trying to write music that we think we should be making because it's what we're famous for."
The band will be heading to Los Angeles to finish up the new release and have some shows scheduled for early November at the Whiskey as well as Knotfest L.A. on November 5. Listen to the full interview with BMTH's Oliver Sykes above and follow the band on social media for updates.
