Family offers $50k in 2013 murder of Van Nuys man

A new billboard showcases the photo of a Van Nuys father murdered nearly a decade ago in a cold case as a family and investigators plead for the public’s help finding his killer.

The image of Kenneth "Kenny" Fulks is displayed in the 10700 block of San Fernando Road in Pacoima. It’s accompanied by a phone number for anyone with tips about his murder to call.

During a press conference Wednesday, investigators announced a $50,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of his murderer. Crews erected the billboard after the news conference organized by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Bureau Homicide Detectives.

“This murder happened in 2013, so a lot of people have put it in the back of their minds and forgotten about it,” Tina Swayae Johnson, Fulk’s mother, said at the announcement. “We’ve not been able to do that.”

On May 9, 2013, Kenneth Fulks was shot and killed inside his cell phone store on Vanowen Street in Van Nuys. LAPD Detective Marc Martinez said the suspect – or suspects – snuck in the business while Fulks was working late, forced Fulks into a back room of his store, and killed him.

"We are extremely frustrated," Johnson lamented, hoping the new billboard or cash incentive might jog some memories. "We're frustrated that the community hasn't come forward."
