LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Fewer people are moving to California from other states and Los Angeles is no exception, according to a study released Wednesday.

The number of people leaving California has also increased since the beginning of the pandemic, according to a study from the nonpartisan California Policy Lab.

The biggest indicator of population loss in California is the decline in new entrances to the state from other states, which has dropped 38% since March 2020, according to the report.

All regions of California experienced steep declines, but the Bay Area was hit the hardest, with entrances declining by 48-53% since the pandemic began.

The study also found the number of exits from the state is 12% higher than pre-COVID levels.

Statewide, the number of people who left California increased from 16.3% in 2016 to 20.3% at the end of September. L.A. County saw an increase of 10.4% during that time frame, according to the study.
