LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Hours ahead of a hearing over Britney Spears’ conservatorship in downtown Los Angeles Friday, fans gathered outside of the courtroom to support the pop icon and the #FreeBritney movement.
Part of the support showed up in the form of a “Merry Britmas” display, complete with a hot pink Christmas tree topped with none other than a figurine of the prop princess herself in all white and angel wings.
“Britney said she’s celebrating Christmas early this year, so let’s join her!” a sign on the table next to the display read.
The group offered other Free Britney supporters the opportunity to decorate their own ornaments and write down their holiday wishes for Britney, saying “Let’s put some positive energy out into the world!”
The Britmas idea comes from an Oct. 15 Instagram post by Spears, depicting a fully decorated Christmas tree in the middle of her living room. The post came less than two weeks after Spears’ father Jamie was removed as the conservator of her estate, a role he’d held since 2008.
In the post she wrote, in part, “I’ll just be honest and say I’ve waited so long to be free from the situation I’m in...and now that it’s here I’m scared to do anything because I’m afraid I’ll make a mistake!!”
She went on to say she was decorating for and celebrating Christmas early “because why not” and said any reason to find more joy in life is a good idea.
The “Britmas” celebration comes ahead of a judge’s decision Friday on whether to terminate Spears’ conservatorship, which has controlled her life decisions and money for the last 14 years.
The hearing is set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
