On Thursday, officials announced that over $1 billion would be given to help the Inglewood Transit Connector Project.
The Inglewood Transit Connector Project is a 1.6-mile “fully elevated, automated, fixed-guideway transit system with three new transit stations in the City of Inglewood,” according to the project’s website.
“It's the first last mile connector project, which means it gets people to where they wanna go from where another mass transit modality takes them past,” Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts said. “So to be specific, we have the key line that runs through Inglewood along Florence and then we want to make a connection at the Market Street and Florence station over Market Street, over Manchester, over Prairie to the entertainment.”
He said the transit connector would carry 11,000 people per hour.
“Think about the fact that we just had Beyoncé and Taylor Swift here about over a 12 day- period, for six concerts for Taylor Swift and three for Beyoncé, and we had about 720,000 people attend,” he said.

The $1 billion donation is expected to cover half of the estimated total cost, according to City News Service.
Some Inglewood residents are hopeful that the people mover will help with the traffic, especially on game days.
“The afternoons are just crazy packed with all the cars in front of the stadiums and, it’s just a struggle to get out of work and just to even get home at this point,” one man told KNX News’ Jon Baird. “So this people mover would really help the city for sure.”
Mayor Butts said now that funding is secured, they could go into the engineering stage and begin construction.
