Need to know: L.A. Unified classrooms to reopen for in-person learning on Aug. 16

All returning staff and students will be required to participate in weekly COVID-19 testing.

Come Monday, Aug. 16, staff and students in the Los Angeles Unified School District will resume in-person learning for the first time in more than a year.

In a statement shared on the district’s website, Interim Superintendent Megan K. Reilly said all schools in the district will offer full-day instruction, five days a week, along with recess, after-school programs, sports and extracurriculars.

Reilly added that sanitization efforts continue and the district has upgraded schools' air-filtration systems.

What to know ahead of Aug. 16 

-Masks will be required for everyone, including staff, students, and visitors.
-Physical distancing will be maximized as much as possible.
-All students and employees, both vaccinated and unvaccinated, returning for in-person instruction will be required to participate in weekly COVID-19 testing.

LAUSD said the above-listed guidelines are in accordance with guidance from the L.A. County Department of Public Health. 

Required testing is free, quick and easy according to the district. Personal information will be kept confidential. Testing began Aug. 2.
