Angelenos are taking to the skies this Thanksgiving in record numbers.

Los Angeles International Airport is expected to have up to 2.5 million people using the airport from Nov. 16 through Nov. 27, according to Los Angeles World Airports. Passenger traffic at the airport is expected to be around 91.5%, according to TSA data.

LAX spokesperson Victoria Spilabotte told KNX News’ Jon Baird the airport is gonna be very busy.

“You're going to be traveling with many hundreds of thousands of passengers if you're going to be traveling through LAX any one of these days leading up to Thanksgiving or afterward,” she said

KNX News travel editor Peter Greenberg told L.A.’s Morning News that those traveling by plane should give themselves plenty of time to get to the airport.

“Give yourself at least two-and-a-half hours to get to the airport,” he said. “And if you’re making a connecting flight, give yourself at least two-and-a-half hours to make a connection because if you that connection, because the first flight is late, all the other flights will be full and you’ll be spending Thanksgiving in a rocking chair in the Charlotte airport.”

He also advised that when it comes to your return flight, avoid Sunday flights.

“Come back on Friday or Saturday or wait til’ Tuesday or Wednesday of next week,” he said, adding that airfares will drop and travelers won’t get stuck at the airport.

For those hitting the roads this holiday, the California Highway Patrol said it would have a “maximum enforcement period” from 6:01 p.m. on Wednesday to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.
