A man is under arrest after allegedly committing several crimes throughout south Orange County, including shooting a woman in Mission Viejo.
Orange County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Todd Hylton said Michael French of Aliso Viejo, is suspected of a domestic violence incident in San Clemente, reckless driving in Mission Viejo that involved French crashing into vehicles and the shooting of a witness to the reckless driving.
Hylton said authorities received the call about the domestic violence incident at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening. According to Hylton, authorities are investigating charges of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder.
At about 7:40 p.m., deputies received a call of reckless driving in Mission Viejo, with the vehicle matching the description of the one belonging to French, Hylton said.
A female witness saw French driving and followed him when he pulled into a parking lot, according to Hylton said.
“He fired several shots at the female witness, striking her with non-life threatening injuries,” Hylton said. “She called in and give their location and the suspect was taken into custody on a nearby hillside.”
The shooting victim is expected to recover, Hylton said. Charges against French were not immediately released.
