A man in a meth-induced psychosis shot and killed a 22-year-old man Friday night in the San Fernando Valley, according to the LAPD.

It happened at 9 p.m. on Morehart Avenue in Sun Valley. Carlos Gallegos was sitting in his pickup truck with his girlfriend talking when a random stranger allegedly walked up to the truck and shot inside it. When the bullet hit Gallegos, he hit the gas, then the truck crashed into another car in front of a home.

“We heard the crash, it was me and family, and next thing you know, we just heard noises and we stepped outside,” Joe, a resident, told  KNX News’ Emily Valdez. “We see some accidents across the street and there was just shouting and chaos was going on. And somehow a lady started saying out loud that man shot my boyfriend, that man shot my boyfriend pointing towards the park.”

There was a security video, which led police to the car. Police said they arrested a man that they found sleeping inside of it. He was identified as 53-year-old Shawn Hamasaki.

Hamasaki admitted that he shot into the truck because he was hallucinating from being high on meth and thought people were after him, according to a detective.

“It shows facts of what meth does, what drugs do,” the detective said.

Hamasaki is being held on $2 million bail.
