While Popeyes is known for its chicken sandwiches, the fast-food chain seems fishy these days - but in a good way.
The chain known for its fried chicken has announced that a new Cajun Flounder Sandwich is coming to restaurants across the nation on February 11, Fox News reported.
This is a milestone for Popeyes because it is the first fish sandwich to appear on its menu. When biting into the sandwich, you'll taste a fried filet of flounder that can be found on a buttery toasted brioche bun with pickles and tartar sauce.
Popeyes described the new menu item as "light, flakey and seasoned in a blend of Louisiana brand's Cajun seasoning." The chain explained how the sandwich is made with real fish and how it was "caught in the icy waters of the Pacific."
To make sure fans know the fish is real, Popeyes will allow customers to add a "Sandwich Insurance" to their order for 10 cents on the app. If you do not like the sandwich, you can trade it for a chicken sandwich instead.
"After seeing the response to our Chicken Sandwich in 2019, we are excited to deliver yet another delicious sandwich to our fans that is sure to reset industry standards," Popeyes President Sami Siddiqui said in a statement.
While Popeyes offers new menu items, it also allows fans to eat free food.
In November, the chain offered fans the chance to enjoy one of their iconic chicken sandwiches at absolutely no extra cost. Food lovers were able to grab the freebie by planning an order for $10 or more using the restaurant’s mobile app or website.
Popeyes Chicken Sandwich was introduced in 2019, where it featured a chicken breast fillet marinated in Louisiana seasonings and breaded in buttermilk coating, barrel cured pickles, regular or spicy mayonnaise, served on a buttery brioche bun.
