RIVERSIDE (CNS) - Southern California Edison shut off power to 5,872
customers in Riverside County on Thanksgiving Day due to a high risk of
wildfire caused by gusty winds and low humidity.
Communities without power include Hemet, Homeland, and two
unincorporated areas of Riverside County, with residents in Hemet and Homeland first alerted at around 12:50 p.m. Thursday, according to the Southern California Edison website.
While Hemet had an estimated restoration time of around 5 p.m., restorations time for the other areas had yet to be determined.
Another 8,418 customers in the county were under a warning of possible Public Safety Power Shutoffs.
The elevated fire danger was expected to last until 6 p.m. SCE said
that once fire conditions end, restoration is expected to take up to eight
hours, but could take longer if the utility needs daylight for safe inspections or if workers find damage.
``Community Crew Vehicles and Community Resource Centers are staffed and supporting customers during today's Public Safety Power Shutoff,'' SCE tweeted at 1:30 p.m.
The utility regularly affects the shutoffs during potentially dangerous fire weather conditions.
