The government has been telling everyone to get the new COVID vaccine as soon as possible, but it doesn't seem like many pharmacies have them yet.
KNX News called multiple local pharmacies to get a better idea of when the vaccines would be available, and some said they didn't know, and others guessed anywhere from the end of next week to the first week in October.
The CDC gave an official sign-off on the vaccine earlier this week, so where's the urgency?
Dr. Melissa Kimura, President-Elect of the California Pharmacists Association, told KNX In Depth, "We are hearing some potential challenges with shipping of that vaccine as manufacturers are getting used to being responsible for receiving and distributing them instead of going through the federal government."
Another issue is many major pharmacies are allowing people to schedule an appointment online, and when patients show up, they simply don't have the shots.
Dr. Kimura said this is likely due to expected shipments not showing up when they should and technology lagging to update.
If you have difficulty finding a location with vaccines, Dr. Kimura said, "By early next week, we'll start to see many more pharmacies across the state having these available."
CVS sent KNX News a statement that said, in part, its pharmacies began receiving COVID vaccines Wednesday and will continue to receive inventory on what they're calling a rolling basis throughout the week.
According to the statement, all CVS pharmacy locations are expected to have the vaccination in stock by early next week.
