Grimes took to social media to show off some new ink this weekend. The Canadian singer posted a photo of a fresh, white ink tattoo covering her back that she says will resemble “alien scars,” once it’s healed.

The art was performed by tattoo artist Tweakt with design help from Nusi Quero and showcases several intertwined lines stretching from her shoulders to her lower back.
“Full back in white ink by @tweakt w sum help from the alien computer brain of @nusiquero,” Grimes posted on her Instagram along with a photo. “Don’t have a good pic cuz it hurts too much and I need to sleep haha, and I’ll be red for a few wks, but gna be beautiful alien scars. Hope everyone’s having a good day.”
A handful of celebrities including Princess Nokia, Liv Boeree and Lights expressed their admiration for the piece in the comments section with statements like “Sickkkkkk,” and “Unreal.”
Last year, Grimes and her husband, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk welcomed a son who they named X Æ A-Xii, a name that tributes the “unknown variable” (X), translation of love in several languages (AI) and their favorite aircraft (Xii).
The abstract piece will come as no surprise to Grimes’ supporters, as her deep appreciation for art and deeper meaning is always on display. From various other tattoos and her music to the coloring book she released in November 2020, Grimes is no stranger to the world of artistic expression, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
