23 years after their 2000 hit single, "Girls Dem Sugar," Beenie Man and Mya reunited for "Docta" and they both sat down with The Big Tigger Morning Show to share how this collab came about and dive into the current state of R&B and afro-beats.

"It's never too long" Beenie said when Big Tigger asked what took so long for this well deserved second collab.
Taking a minute to go back in time, they reminisced about the creation of "Girls Dem Sugar." Mya remembered falling in love with the melody of the song. She revealed that she had "no clue" what the song was going to be, she hadn't even heard Beenie's verse until after the song was complete.
Talking about their new track together, "Docta," Beenie said "when I actually did the song we said we need the perfect person so we send song to Mya and um she never hesitated, she just did it. And it came out good."
As afro-beats and dance hall are on the rise, Beenie says "it's like when Hip-Hop [rose] from dance hall and Hip-Hop becomes bigger than dancehall but dance hall is always there...[we're] always the foundation."
"It's always a great feeling to know that people still love the music that you make," the Jamaican native said in terms of dancehall becoming so prominent.
As far as R&B, Mya says she hates when people say "R&B is dead" because she believes "it's out here thriving, not just surviving."
Beenie Man's new album Simma, is out now. The 20-track project not only includes Mya but also sees features from Shaggy, Popcaan, BackRoad Gee and more.
