We're all probably aware that the risk of dementia increases as we age, but veterans may be at a higher risk for dementia based on their military experiences. A traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress or being a prisoner of war can all increase the chances of developing dementia, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
California has more veterans (1.6 million) than any other state in the country, and San Diego County has more veterans than any other county in California. The Alzheimer's Foundation of America is hosting a brain health awareness webinar for California veterans and their families on Thursday, September 16th from 11am to 12n, where they will learn about brain health (and get healthy aging tips), early detection, memory screenings, veterans’ benefits and resources.
Charles J. Fuschillo, President and CEO of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, discusses what to expect from this important event for veterans and their families.
