For the second time in three games, the Padres were down to their final out before hitting a home run to take the lead in the 9th inning. Nick Castellanos played the hero on Sunday, and it was Gavin Sheets' turn on Wednesday. San Diego's offense had been lifeless through 8 innings, as they were being shutout on just 4 hits by the Brewers. Jacob Misiorowski was brilliant, striking out 10 over 7 shutout frames, and actually came back out to pitch the 8th inning, but exited the game while warming up in between innings. Brewers closer Abner Uribe retired Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado to begin the 9th inning with a 1-0 lead, before Miguel Andujar extended the game with a single to center field. Xander Bogaerts then worked a walk after falling behind 1-2 in the count, bringing up Gavin Sheets with two on and two outs. On the second pitch of the at-bat, Sheets blasted a 3-run homer on an 87 MPH slider to give the Padres their first lead of the game. Mason Miller then locked down the bottom of the 9th inning to earn his 13th save of the season, and improving the Padres' record to 25-17. Griffin Canning will start Wednesday's rubber match.
