The veteran right-hander allowed 7 earned runs on six hits and five walks in five innings of work, throwing just 52 of his 93 pitches for strikes. The Padres scored a run in each of the first two innings, but the Orioles scored three runs in each of the first two innings to put the game out of reach. Canning surrendered two home runs, creating a deficit that was too big for the Padres to overcome. The Padres will look to rebound on Saturday with Randy Vasquez drawing the start.
