The Padres lost to the White Sox 8-2 on Friday night, as starter German Marquez struggled with his command. The righty allowed 5 hits and issued 5 free passes while yielding 7 earned runs in 5 innings of work. The White Sox scored 6 runs in the 2nd inning, with Munetaka Murakami delivering the knockout blow with a 3-run homer. Colson Montgomery added a solo shot in the 5th inning, putting the Padres in a hole that was too deep to climb out of. Fernando Tatis Jr. showed signs of life at the plate, reaching base four times, going 3-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored. Michael King will start for the Padres on Saturday night.
