The Padres dropped Wednesday's series finale to the Cubs 5-4, losing their first series in the month of April. Matt Waldron didn't have his best stuff, as he allowed 3 runs through the first 4 innings of the games, but was able to complete 5 innings allowing just those 3 runs, keeping the Padres in the game. Cubs starter Jameson Taillon cruised through the first 4.2 innings without allowing a baserunner, but with two outs in the bottom of the 5th, he surrendered a solo homer to Miguel Andujar, his first with the Padres, followed by a walk to Jake Cronenworth and a game-tying 2-run homer to Nick Castellanos, which was his first long ball in brown and gold. Adrian Morejon then entered with a tie score in the 6th inning, and allowed a run to put the Padres down by a run. Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a solo homer off of Jason Adam in the 8th, his second home run in as many days, giving the Cubs a 5-3 lead. The Padres had a great opportunity to get back in the game in the bottom of the 8th, when Fernando Tatis Jr. came to the plate with the bases loaded and no outs. Tatis Jr. hit a sac-fly to center field to bring in one run, but then Manny Machado grounded into an inning ending double play to end the threat, as the Cubs held on to win 5-4. The Padres will welcome Chicago's other team, the White Sox to town beginning on Friday.
