The Padres took a big step in strengthening their starting rotation on Monday with trades for Giants LHP Robbie Ray and Tigers RHP Casey Mize. Ray has a 3.08 ERA with 107 strikeouts in 21 starts for the Giants this season, while Mize, the former #1 overall pick for Detroit, has a 2.70 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP in 16 starts for the Tigers. The highest profile prospect the Padres traded away was Kash Mayfield, the organization's 1st round draft pick in 2024.
