Gavin Sheets celebrated his birthday in style, blasting a go-ahead 3-run home run in the 9th inning to complete the Padres' comeback after trailing by 5 runs entering the final frame. The Padres trailed for most of the game, falling behind 5-2 after the 2nd inning, and 8-4 through 7. Ramon Laureano drove in a run in the 8th inning, but the Fernando Tatis Jr. struck out to end the inning and strand two other runners on base. Entering the 9th inning, the Padres trailed 8-5. Colorado's closer Victor Vodnik allowed the first five hitters he faced in the 9th inning to reach base. Jackson Merrill drew a leadoff walk, Manny Machado singled to right field and then Xander Bogaerts singled to center, bringing Merrill home. Miguel Andujar then singled to right field to bring Machado home, putting runners at the corners with no outs and trailing by just a run. After entering the game as a pinch-hitter in the 8th inning, Gavin Sheets put the Padres on top for good with a majestic 3-run homer to complete the comeback and secure the series win for the Padres. Mason Miller would close things out in the 9th inning, tying the franchise's all-time scoreless innings streak in the process. The Padres flew to Mexico City after the game, where they'll take in the sights on their day off on Friday, before facing the Diamondbacks for a 2-game series over the weekend.
