PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — There is no doubt that for many women, menopause and the associated symptoms — hot flashes, sleep issues, mood swings, fatigue — can be frustrating.

There are some hormonal options, but many women do not wish to take these hormones or may not be suitable candidates. Researchers from the University of Copenhagen have been studying acupuncture as a potential treatment.

According to their research on 70 menopausal women in Denmark, five weeks of standardized Western medical acupuncture resulted in less frequent day and night sweats as well as sleep problems.

There have been studies in the past that have looked at acupuncture as a potential treatment, but this is being studied far more seriously.
