PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — You may be wondering how we are moving so fast toward a vaccine; at this point, the eyes of the scientific world are focused on the virus and a vaccine.

Just six months ago, a team of Chinese scientists uploaded its genetic sequence to a public scientific site and that kicked off the record-breaking rush to develop vaccines. COVID-19 is a coronavirus, and scientifically speaking, it’s an easier target for potential vaccines than other pathogens.

There already has been a great deal of work done on vaccines to fight other forms of coronavirus that cause SARS and MERS.

It’s quite reasonable to think vaccines will be available in the not too distant future.
