Dr. Christine McGinn has a bustling practice in New Hope. As a transgender woman, she spent years in the Navy, where she went to medical school. Now, she performs gender reassignment surgeries.
In 2017, after President Donald Trump tweeted that transgender individuals would be banned from the military, she offered to perform free gender reassignment surgeries to active duty military troops.

"In an effort to show the military that it's really not as expensive or a problem for deployment as Donald Trump is saying," she added.
She's performed 14 free surgeries, and nine are in the pipeline. This week, the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for Trump's ban to move forward while the lower courts litigate the matter.
"I have people coming in that are helicopter pilots. Financially, it doesn't make any sense to get rid of somebody who you spent millions of dollars to train."
The Pentagon said this week, there would be no changes to the policy for now. McGinn believes the ban is a betrayal, and trans soldiers should continue to serve.
"Regardless of what ban he puts in, there's going to be transgender people in the military."
