Brody owns Bryce’s Catering Company in Wynnewood. With all of their events cancelled from March to June, Brody said 95% of their business was gone in one statement: No gatherings.
“When you’re in the catering business, you’re used to doing event after event after event. We’ve been doing this over 20 years,” he said.
Brody says most of his employees have been with the company for a long time. He says he thinks of them as family, but he was looking at a difficult reality of laying off all of those workers.
That was before Brody came up with an idea that helped keep his employees working and the community fed.
“We work really hard in creating a menu that fits all the different needs for everybody. Whether they’re gluten free, whether they have allergies, things like that. We do the menu in groups, so we have three to four poultry items, three to four meat items, three to four seafood items, three to four vegetarian items. And if people have special needs, we’re OK because we’re in the catering business,” he explained.
Brody says now, the phone is ringing off the hook with people craving their menu favorites such as short ribs, brisket, and mac and cheese.
But he says what’s most important is putting together a dinner that people can enjoy “stress-free” while they’re stuck at home.
“This is really to try and help more so than profit-driven. I wasn’t interested in making money, I was just interested in saying thank you for all you do. It spun off into a small little business of its own,” he said.
Brody says he’s also looking to start providing free meals to families in need in the future.
