NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One man is dead after a house fire in Rhawnhurst Monday afternoon.
Philadelphia police say fire crews were called to a home near the intersection of Shelmire Avenue and Alma Street just before 4 p.m.
Firefighters found a man in his mid 20s in the front bedroom. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel says this is the second death in three days.
"It's been a very busy and tragic 2019 for us so far," he said.
On Saturday, crews pulled a body from a house fire at Sixth Street and Olney Avenue.
"The bad news is we've had 17 fire deaths this year so far, and it's just bad," Thiel said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
