3rd Curran-Fromhold inmate dies from apparent drug overdose

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A third inmate has died of an apparent drug overdose at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in Northeast Philadelphia.

He was one of four victims who needed emergency assistance last weekend.

City officials say he was hospitalized on Friday, a day before three other newly admitted inmates were found unconscious in their cells. Two of them died, the other one was revived and has since returned to the prison population.

The names of the victims have not been released.

Investigators say Fentanyl was found in the urine of all four men. They're now trying to determine how the drugs were brought into Curran-Fromhold, if there is any connection among the inmates and how the drugs got past security.
