PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — SEPTA riders using a Key card or pass on the regional rails will have to do something different before they go through the turnstile to get out of Jefferson Station beginning Monday.
SEPTA's Andrew Busch says it's the next phase of the application of the Key card on the regional rails.
Eventually, all Center City rail stations will require riders to do the same.
"Tap in, tap out and then tap in and tap out. We're trying to get that kind of into the mindset of our customers moving forward and so this is a small step in that. And then we'll start expanding it to the other Center City stations," he added.
He says it's also part of a plan to expand another way to pay your fare.
"With a travel wallet customer who's traveling a trip at a time. It's going to charge based on where you get on and where you get off and if there's only one tap in that sequence you're going to get charged the maximum fare," he said.
He says expect it to happen sometime in the months ahead.
